Hmmm... I was talking to one of my jie about how was the lesbian scene like in Singapore... and I was shocked at my sudden realization that my knowledge was becoming obsolete...
So here is an update on the new bars on the block
Alternative Bar
Girls' hangout with a pool table. Week nights are strictly for ladies with Saturday being the only night where male companions are welcomed. Located on the second floor, enter by staircase near Why Not and Legend bar. Opening hours are from 9pm on weekdays and on Saturdays. Closed on Sundays and public holidays.
Cows & Coolies
A pub for gals to showcase their vocal prowess belting out latest Chinese hits.
Herstory
The monthly party for grrls to have some rip, roaring fun is now held on the second Thursday of every month from 9pm to 3am. The next one coming up will be on 12 May 2005 at whyNOT Bar & Disco. Check out their website for the latest updates.
Mad Monk's Pub
Located at The Riverwalk arcoss the road from Boat Quay, the pub comes alive every Friday night with Top 40 and R&B hits, a packed dancefloor and alfresco area. The best bet for an "action-packed" girls-only night out.
Two Queens @ Thumper
Held every first Tuesday of the month; and organised and hosted by one of Singapore's best known actresses, Irene Ang, the night typically begins with a short show or game segment before the DJ takes over with a Top 40 dance mix. The bar also features an al fresco area which looks out onto the hotel carpark.
I was like only aware of the Mad Monk's Pub and Cow and Coolies, where my jie would drag me to meet her girlfriends and sing the night away...
of course, there are the more famouse pubs, where there is an even mix of AJs and Lesbians...
Velvet Underground
Cover charges differ for different nights and hours. Best go by taxi. Good crowd, great music, one of the mainstays of the gay/lesbian communities. Slightly older, mid-20s crowd. Air-crew nites on Tuesdays and Thursdays
Zouk
Plays house & techno beats, great music, hip young crowd. Wednesdays is Mambo night (lots of university kids).
As usual, most gals-night-out are on Thursday, where ladies-only events and such will be held...
